Vandalia Celebrates 112th Birthday of Long-time Member Miss Susie Jones Family and friends gathered on Tuesday, July 19th to celebrate Miss Susie's birthday at Vandalia Senior Center, where she was an active member.
Kids from Bayview's Summer OST Program took Susie down Memory Lane as they reminded her of the milestones in American history that she lived through.
Miss Susie is surprised to hear that she is NY's oldest documented person.

Marine Park's Concert in the Park and Youth Showcase The Marine Park concert featured The Bassenettes, whose renditions of Broadway Tunes, Motown favorites and classics from the '50s and '60s charmed the crowd into coming up by the stage to dance. The beautiful weather was complemented by free ice cream and the Concert transitioned smoothly into our Annual Youth Showcase. Students from Marine Park JHS introduced the showcase with a jazz performance, and the martial artists of Champions fitness finished it off with a bang. There was never a dull moment in between, with exciting band performances, a chorus, two duets and dynamic dance and cheerleading routines. Thank you to everyone who made this event another one worth remembering!

Astronaut Visits PS 236 and PS 312
5th graders from PS 312 and PS 236 were treated to an appearance by astronaut Michael Massimino on Monday, March 7, 2011.
Massimino's last mission was aboard the Atlantis in 2009, where he serviced the Hubble Space Telescope, racking up a total of more than 571 hours in space and 30 hours of spacewalking. We commemorated the mission in 2009 at Midwood Senior Center, where his cousin Connie Puleo is a member. He was happy to share his experiences with a slideshow and a Q&A session with the students.
Special thanks to Congressman Anthony Weiner for arranging this experience. |
